Unfortunately as I write this our club has bad press with Kenedy sent home from our tour of China after posting insulting comments on social media.
This is not good for Chelsea or Conte, but like he has done the whole time he’s been our manager he’ll deal with it in the correct matter. The 21-year-old Brazilian Kenedy has shamed himself and possibly should have been sent home a little earlier. He has made stupid comments and hasn’t done himself any favours and could now have harmed his Chelsea career now.
Only time will tell but Conte will handle it, just like he did with various other issues last season. Like when he first started when I’m sure the players came back fit, well and ready to play but weren’t too motivated after our poor season the year before. Performance levels had dropped and not just our 2015 PFA Players’ Player of the Year Hazard. Costa, Matic and the like too.
We had to hang on to Conte this season after some press talk saying he wasn’t happy and ready to leave. I’m sure how much truth was in that but he has now signed a new two-year contract with the club and said:
‘The Chelsea fans have given me so much support since I arrived here one year ago and it is important we continue to succeed together.’
He inspired all the players last year and I’m positive he will do it once again as we prepare to start firing on all cylinders this time. Last season he “managed” the players and instead of using them where you and I might have wanted to play them, he changed his approach and played them where they’re best suited to his team. Hazard was back close to his best and I’m sure he can get better now than two years ago and we can win another league title with him as key.
Antonio will just keep going and pushing his team, he did that at Juventus once the title was won. He didn’t let them settle and relax, the project then became about winning it again and again by winning Serie A three years running.
Of course, Kante was a vital part of Leicester’s campaign the season before and now he’s with us and has been just as vital. Becoming the first regular first team player in the Premier League to win back to back titles with two different clubs. He’s a fantastic player and slotted in perfectly, his teammates say he’s just as hard-working in training. In fact, you could say he his now our key player.
Vardy and Mahrez were convinced to stay at Leicester but Kante was swayed with more success here at the The Bridge by Conte himself, who wanted him from the off and was the main factor in moving. I think he’s improved and become a better player as well.
Conte also has European football to deal with this season, but with the squad we have I think we’re more than capable. He’s replaced unsettled Costa with Álvaro Morata after missing out on Lukaku, which is another thing he seems to have dealt with. Playing in the Champions League this season will make the season more tricky for sure. I’m not going to say Conte will get it right straight away but if he doesn’t then I trust him to change things. He is so good and that, he doesn’t panic, he thinks and changing things but importantly he gets his team on board with him. If they don’t like it and do struggle with it he handles it until they do. Roll on the new season. Thanks Antonio so far…
