Chelsea vs Fulham Timeline & H2H Stats

Fulham are hardly known for the passion of their fans, and they are not often thought of as a particularly violent or troublesome group. As such, despite the extreme proximity between these two clubs, there is not much in the way of a rivalry. Historically, they have often found themselves in different divisions, with Fulham in particular spending a lot of time outside the top flight.

One interesting thing to note (though one which most Chelsea fans in the UK will be aware of), is that Chelsea actually play their home games in Fulham! Stamford Bridge is to be found not in the borough of Chelsea, but in neighbouring Fulham, both extremely well-heeled areas of the capital. Both clubs are located in west London, however, and a distance of less than two miles separates their respective homes.

If there is a rivalry between the clubs, it tends to be rather one-way, with most Chelsea fans looking to the likes of Spurs, Arsenal and West Ham, and even Liverpool and Man United, and viewing Fulham rather condescendingly. The Cottagers were formed a few years before Chelsea, but only spent three seasons in the old Division One prior to 1959/60. They spent most of that decade at the summit of English football but did not return to the top tier until 2001/02, playing in the third tier as recently as 1997.

Because of this, the clubs have played relatively few times across all competitions and have never met in a major cup final. In all Chelsea won over half of the meetings between the teams, equating to just over 50 from around 100 games. In contrast, Fulham have won around a dozen of these west London derby games.

In the Premier League, Fulham’s record is especially disma, with Chelsea having won around 62% of the meetings and Fulham just 5%! The teams have rarely met in the cup competitions and nor have there been any really notable games between the pair. Perhaps that will change in the future but we wouldn’t bank on Fulham somehow becoming powerhouses of the English game any time soon!
